Short Statement: The National Healthcare Safety Network is currently approved for 65,817 burden hours. The NHSN is currently seeking approval of 1,278,315 hours, a net increase of 1,212,498 hours. The increase is due to the addition of new forms to this information collection request and an increased number of respondents. These changes are necessitated by the introduction of the influenza module, as well as a need to revise several of the forms to better reflect current technology and best practices and ideally, to simplify data analysis. The addition of the proposed new forms will increase the burden of data collection, as reflected in the detailed tables of Attachment I. Form changes are detailed in Attachment C.
