Abstract:
The Standard requires that employers monitor employee exposure to hazardous chemicals in laboratories, to provide medical consultation and examinations, to train employees about the hazards of chemicals in their working areas, and to establish and maintain accurate records of employee exposure to hazardous chemicals.

Short Statement:
OSHA is requesting to increase the existing burden hour estimate for the collection of information requirements in the Standard. In this regard, the Agency is requesting to increase the current burden hour estimate from 270,636 hours to 281,419 hours, a total increase of 10,783 hours. Additionally, the capital cost estimate has increased from $32,615,952 to $35,978,301 a total increase of $3,362,349. This increase is a result of an increase in the cost of medical consultations from $125 to $133, medical exams increasing from $282 to $301. The increase is primarily due to the increase in both the number of facilities being monitored (from 43,300 to 45,616), and the number of employees covered by the Standard (from 1,598,385 to 1,660,408).
