OMB appreciates that BJS will take a more active step in educating its respondents about the race and ethnicity categories and definitions. In addition, OMB understands that to enhance consistency across surveys, in part due to some of the same respondents in more than one collection, BJS wishes to use in this collection the same race and ethnicity question that it is using in the National Prisoner Statistics (NPS) surveys. OMB appreciates that BJS plans to analyze the information obtained from Item H (other categories in your information systems) in these questions and take steps to move toward full consistency with the OMB standard. OMB also appreciates the completeness of this information collection package, and the efforts to strengthen the discussion of data uses and users.
