Abstract:
The standard requires employers to monitor employee exposure to acrylonitrile (AN), to provide medical surveillance, to train employees about the hazards of AN, and to establish and maintain accurate records of employee exposure to AN. These records are used by employers, employees, physicians, and the Government to ensure that employees are not harmed by exposure to AN.

Short Statement:
The Agency is requesting a decrease in the number of burden hours from 3,237 hours to 3,166 hours, a total reduction of 71 hours. The Agency has updated the total number of employees in sectors that produce Acrylonitrile (AN) and AN-based materials, from 3,376 to 3,301 employees. There was also a reduction in the number of employees exposed to AN at or above the AL, but at or below the PEL in each sector, from 563 to 552. Finally, the estimated number of employees exposed to AN above the PEL, from 314 to 306 employees. The Agency has increased the cost for exposure monitoring from $174,000 to $180,946, an increase of $6,946. The cost increase was based on the increase in the cost of a medical examination from $159 to $169.
