Short Statement:
The NMSN was revised slightly since the prior ICR submission in response to public comments. The Department has not estimated any additional hour or cost burden for the revisions, because they are minor. Using data obtained from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, specifically the drop in the percentage of workers in the private sector and an increase in the separation rate of workers from their employers, the Department estimates that fewer NMSNs will reach employers, and therefore, fewer notices will be sent to plan administrators by employers. The drop in the estimated number of notices sent is expected to reduce the hour burden associated with this ICR by about 104,000 hours. However, increases in labor rates and mailing costs led the estimated cost burden associated with this ICR to increase by approximately $1 million.
