Abstract:
The Textile Fiber Products Identification Act prohibits the misbranding and false advertising of textile fiber products. The Textile Rules establish disclosure requirements that assist consumers in making informed purchasing decisions, and recordkeeping requirements that assist the Commission in enforcing the Rules. The Rules also contain a petition procedure for requesting the establishment of generic names for textile fibers.

Short Statement:
FTC staff has adjusted downward its prior 2009 burden estimate of 8,456,241 hours, for which the Commission currently has OMB clearance, to 7,528,142 hours for 2012. This decrease is primarily attributable to fewer covered textile products (from 21.5 billion products in 2009 to 19.4 billion products in 2012). There has also been a decrease in the number of textile firms subject to the Rules' recordkeeping provisions (from 24,936 firms in 2009 to 20,241 firms in 2012) and disclosure requirements (from 26,647 firms in 2008 down to 22,218 in 2011).
