Terms of Clearance:
The Department of Interior’s (DOI) Office of Federal Acknowledgment is currently developing a rule to revise the process of acknowledging an Indian group as an Indian tribe. DOI has received public comment on ways to improve the process and reduce the burden of this collection. Such comments will be addressed in the context of the rulemaking. Therefore, this collection is approved for 18 months.

Abstract:
The information collection allows the Office of Federal Acknowledgment (OFA), within the Office of the Assistant Secretary - Indian Affairs, to review petitions by Indian groups to determine whether the groups should be acknowledged as Indian tribes eligible for a government-to-government relationship with the U.S. Government.
