Abstract:
The FCC must be able to contact its licensees and permittees in a communications emergency. Respondent wireless, wireline, broadacast, cable and satellite companies will enter emergency contact information in the DIRS database. In the event of an actual emergency, respondents also may enter infrastructure and network damage information and/or requests for resources into the database. Also in the event of an emergency, Commission staff may contacts respondents. The Commission now seeks OMB approval for a revision. In recent years, communications has evolved from a circuit-switched network infrastructure to broadband networks. The Commission is seeking to extend the DIRS to include new respondents to this collection - interconnected Voice Over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and broadband Internet Service Providers.

Short Statement:
There is a change in the respondents, responses and burden hour reporting requirements. In recent years, communications have evolved from a circuit-switched network infrastructure to broadband networks. The last revision extended the Disaster Information Reporting System to include interconnected Voice over Internet Protocol and broadband access Internet Service Providers. This revision increases the number of hours needed to update information in the days after the disaster. The increased burden recognizes that for most disasters we ask companies to update the information submitted to DIRS more than once.
