Abstract:
This rule established requirements for the certification, operation, and maintenance of light-sport aircraft. For the operation of light-sport aircraft, the FAA established a sport pilot certificate and a flight instructor certificate with a sport pilot rating. The FAA also established requirements for student pilots and private pilots to operate these aircraft, and to revise the recreational pilot certificate to align it with privileges proposed for the new sport pilot certificate. The FAA created a new repairman certificate with ratings for individuals who inspect and maintain light-sport aircraft. In addition, the FAA is created a new category of special airworthiness certificate for light-sport aircraft that meet a consensus standard. This rule also revised the requirements for the issuance of experimental certificates to include light-sport aircraft.

Short Statement:
The burden associated with 14 CFR Part 47 that was previously included in this information collection request has been incorporated into the existing collection 2120-0042. This submission cites the use of form 8130-15 for the recordkeeping requirement in ยง21.190(c)(2); this does not add additional burden, only the use of the form to complete the requirement that was included in previous submissions. Additionally, Federal government processing costs for activities that have been completed have been removed from the Federal Government burden calculations.
