Abstract:
Daily inspections will detect and correct equipment problems before they become the source of an accident or incident resulting in personal injuries or damage to property. Further, the publication of the Passenger Door Exterior Side Door Safety final rule will serve to improve the integrity of passenger train exterior side door safety systems and promote passenger train safety overall through new safety standards for the safe operation and use of passenger train exterior side doors. Railroad employees will be trained on specified requirements of this final rule, most notably on how to identify and isolate malfunctioning exterior powered or manual side doors. Thus, this final rule will help limit the number and severity of injuries involving passenger train exterior side doors and enhance the level of safety for passengers and train crew members.
