Abstract:
This standard requires employers to monitor employee exposure, provide medical surveillance, and to maintain accurate records of employee exposure to asbestos. These records will be used by employers, employees, and the Government to ensure that employees are not harmed by exposure to asbestos in the workplace.

Short Statement:
OSHA proposes to remove the requirements for employers to collect and record an employee’s social security number (SSN) on exposure monitoring and medical surveillance records. Time to document SSN in records is negligible and therefore, the Agency is not requesting changes to the burden hour or cost estimates in this ICR. . Also, OSHA is requesting an adjustment decrease of 6 hours, from 11,694 hours to 11,688 hours. The adjustment decrease is due to the Agency’s determination that the requirement for employers to make records available to OSHA upon request no longer takes a burden under the PRA. OSHA typically requests access to records during an inspection, and information collected by the Agency during the investigation is not subject to the PRA under 5 CFR 1320.4(a)(2).
