Abstract:
This standard requires employers to monitor employee exposure, provide medical surveillance, and to maintain accurate records of employee exposure to asbestos. These records will be used by employers, employees, and the Government to ensure that employees are not harmed by exposure to asbestos in the workplace.

Short Statement:
OSHA is requesting an adjustment decrease in the burden hours from 11,694 hours to 11,688 hours, for a total decrease of 6 hours. The decrease is due to the removal of burden hours associated with OSHA requests to access records from employers. Usually, OSHA requests access to records during an inspection. Information collected by the Agency during the investigation is not subject to the PRA under 5 CFR 1320.4(a)(2). Therefore, OSHA takes no burden or cost for OSHA requests to access records in this Supporting Statement. Capital costs increased, from $925,026 to $963,650, an increase of $38,624. This increase is related to increased costs to conduct a medical examination (from $148 to $156). The increase is offset by a decrease in estimated costs for contract industrial hygiene services to conduct exposure monitoring sampling (from $57 to $50.25). The decrease in the exposure monitoring sampling cost is due to the Agency’s use of a different data source to calculate the estimate.
