Terms of Clearance:
In accordance with 5 CFR 1320, the information collection is approved for three years. However, OMB notes the public comments that were received with this collection and that the testing procedures and fees, while long-standing USFS policy, have not gone through public notice and comment as they would with a regulation. OMB encourages USFS to consider avenues for public notice and comment on their wildfire chemical testing procedures, including through a formal rule-making.

Abstract:
The USDA Forest Service has a need to collect information for the use in testing and evaluating chemicals that are used in wildland fire activities. This is necessary for respondents to ensure the chemicals used in the products (1) are safe for personnel involved in wildland fire activities, (2) are safe for the environment, (3) do not lead to corrosion of equipment; and (4) to expedited procurement of the products.

Reduction in redundancies because of program performance improvement and less manufacturer responses. The total number of responses have decreased. Burden hours increased because these were new suppliers requesting approval. This renewal requests approval for a combined total of 3 responses and 40.5 burden hours.
