Abstract:
The standard requires employers to train employees about the hazards of lead, monitor employee exposure, provide medical surveillance, and maintain accurate records of employee exposure to lead. These records will be used by employers, employees, physicians and the Government to ensure that employees are not harmed by exposure to lead in the workplace.

Short Statement:
As part of the SIP-IV rulemaking, OSHA removed the requirement that employers document employees’ social security numbers (SSN) in their exposure and medical records. Time to document SSN in records is negligible and, therefore the Agency is not requesting any changes to the burden hour or cost estimates as a result. (See Table 1) The Agency is requesting a decrease of 14 hours in burden hours, from 1,243,686 to 1,243,672 and decrease of 178 in the responses from 8,284,730 to 8,284,552. This requested decrease in burden hours and responses in the inventory is the result of an error in the recording of the total burden hours in the previous ICR for this standard.
