Abstract:
The 2018 census builds upon the previous three iterations of the CLETA data collections in 2013, 2006, and 2002. The proposed information collection includes all state and local law enforcement training academies offering basic recruit programs during calendar year 2018 in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. BJS plans to field the 2018 CLETA from January through August 2019. The census will collect information about law enforcement training staff, recruits/trainees, curricula, facilities, and policies.

Short Statement:
The CLETA was last administered in 2013 with a total estimated burden of 1,470 hours. The total estimated time burden of the 2018 CLETA has increased 525 hours to an estimated 1,995 hours. The increase in burden is due to an adjustment to the estimate of the number of academies from 700 to 950, increasing the burden by 500 hours. The adjustment to the estimate of the number of academies also increases the number of academies selected for data quality follow up from 420 to 570, adding 25 more hours to the total burden estimate.
