Short Statement: We are reporting a net increase of 31,741 responses and 3,533 burden hours. This increase is attributed to an estimated 10% increase in the number of annual applications for backcountry/wilderness. This increase also includes the anticipated number of respondents using the new form. We’ve assumed of the total number of applicants (n=197,121) using Form 10-404, that 10% (n=1,971) will use the new Form 10-404AK. This assumption is based on our current calculation of the number of backcountry use permits granted in Alaska in the past three years.
