Abstract:
NMFS needs economic data to comply with or support a variety of laws, including the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, Executive Orders and NMFS strategies and policies. It will collect the information from owners/operators of active fishing vessels, permit/license holders and other well-defined groups of fishermen. NMFS and the Regional Fishery Management Councils will use this information to monitor, explain and predict changes in the economic performance and impacts of specific commercial fisheries. Among other things, this will enable fisheries managers and the public to more fully consider the economic effects of proposed and existing regulations for federally managed fisheries. This revision proposes to include an additional 14 fisheries and revise the title of the collection.
