Short Statement: There is a reduction in burden hours previously reported, due to a reduction in the number of respondents and responses received. The numbers have been lowered, as the previously reported burden was over-exaggerated. The burden is anticipated to go down further, when the form has been fully automated into the VECS. These decreases in burden are not related to vessel traffic activity or regulation changes. Additionally, through automation we do not anticipate a reduction in respondents or responses, but a decrease in burden hours per response since parts of the form will be captured by information already in CBP’s holdings, and through enabling more streamlining for the respondent to fill out the remaining information. There is no change to the information being collected, except for reducing the redundant data elements (e.g. vessel name) based on CBP already having that information.
