Abstract:
To control the spread of chronic wasting disease (CWD) in the United States, APHIS created a cooperative, voluntary Federal-State-private sector CWD Herd Certification Program designed to identify farmed or captive herds infected with CWD and provide for the management of these herds in a way that will reduce the risk of spreading disease.

Short Statement:
Changes in estimates are largely attributable to reduced sampling and laboratory testing, fewer reports from respondents, or adjusted respondent estimates for activities. One program change added businesses as a respondent type to an existing recordkeeping activity, adding 35,000 hours of burden.

On behalf of this Federal agency, I certify that the collection of information encompassed by this request complies with 5 CFR 1320.9 and the related provisions of 5 CFR 1320.8(b)(3).
