Abstract:
Section 13 of the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch Act (NSLA) authorizes the Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) and the National School Lunch Program Seamless Summer Option (SSO) to provide low-income children with access to nutritious meals when school is not in session. Meals meeting Federal nutrition guidelines are served at no cost to all children 18 years old and under at approved SFSP and SSO sites in areas in which at least 50 percent of children are eligible for free and reduced price school meals during the school year. The Form FNS-905 is the instrument used to voluntarily collect information from State agencies about approved summer meal sites. The form may only be completed by State agencies. This revision updates the frequency of the number of responses submitted per respondent and removes respondent costs from the burden.

Short Statement:
This is a revision of a currently approved information collection which has 53 respondents, 424 responses, 53 burden hours, and $1,713 in costs. For this revision, FNS updated the frequency of responses per respondent from 8 to 11 submissions annually, based on a review of the number of submissions per State agency. The change in frequency increased the burden hours from 53 to 73 hours annually and the responses from 424 to 583 responses annually. This reflects an increase of approximately 159 responses and 20 burden hours annually due to an adjustment. In addition, this revision also removes $1,713 in costs that were erroneously reported as capital, start-up, operation, and maintenance costs in the previous submission. This collection has none of these costs, so FNS has deleted them from the burden for this collection as an adjustment. With this revision, FNS estimates that this collection will have 53 respondents, 583 responses, and 73 burden hours.
Annual Cost to Federal Government:
$39,428
