Abstract:
The standard requires employers to monitor worker exposure, to provide medical surveillance, and maintain accurate records of worker exposure to benzene. These records will be used by employers, workers, physicians and the Government to ensure that workers are not harmed by exposure to benzene in the workplace.

Short Statement:
The agency is requesting an adjustment decrease of 44,172 burden hours (from 158,770 hours to 114,598 hours). The decrease is due to a reduction in the number of workers exposed above the action level going from 104,093 workers to 69,742 workers even though the current number of establishments remain the same as the previous ICR. However, the actual number of responses decreased from 307,546 to 241, 371, a decrease of 66,175. This decrease in responses is not reflected in the inventory report because there was an error in the calculations of the total number of responses (227,684) and the total number of the burden hours (165,034) in the last submission of this ICR. Under Item 13, there was a decrease in cost from $11,940,431 to $10,958,889, a difference of $981,542. There was a 15 percent increase in medical care services, which increased medical exams from $177 to $204 for workers. Also, there was a decrease in the number of workers receiving medical examinations going from 61,640 to 47,908 workers, a decrease of 13,732.
