Terms of Clearance:
Approved consistent with the understanding that a ICR revision (full package and public comment period) would be necessary to expand the NSDUH sample to include Puerto Rico and/or the Virgin Islands. Part B of that revision must include a discussion of the problems that other Federal have faced in attempts to obtain a representative sample in PR, how the program plans to try to move the needle forward on addressing these problems, and a detailed sampling and data dissemination plan. In the interim, NSDUH may use a non-substantive change mechanism to conduct pilot activities in PR and the VI.

Abstract:
The NSDUH (formerly the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse) is a survey of the civilian, noninstitutionalized population of the United States, age 12 and over. The data are used to estimate the prevalence of cigarette, alcohol and illicit drug use, and abuse of licit drugs. Results are used by SAMHSA, ONDCP, and other Federal agencies and other researchers and organizations to establish policy, direct program activities, and better allocate resources.
