Abstract:
Under Title 28, United States Code (U.S.C.), Section (§) 534, Acquisition, Preservation, and Exchange of Identification Records and Information; Appointment of Officials and the Uniform Federal Crime Reporting Act of 1988, 34 U.S.C. § 41303, this collection requests homicide data from federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies in order for the FBI UCR Program to serve as the national clearinghouse for collection and dissemination of homicide data.

Short Statement:
The burden hours associated with the SHR Data Collection have decreased due to the FBI’s UCR Program’s transition to a NIBRS-only data collection on January 1, 2021. However, the FBI’s UCR Program has opted for a short-term collection of additional information from those agencies still collecting data under SRS. This will include any data reported via SHR. The burden hours are expected to further decline as more agencies transition to NIBRS.
