Abstract:
The Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act of 1968, as amended (34 U.S.C. 10132), authorizes BJS to compile data on the operation of correctional facilities at the state and federal levels. This is the 2024 Census of State and Federal Adult Correctional Facilities (CCF) data collection, fielded every 5-7 years, and will be the tenth in a series. The CCF provides information about the characteristics of individual state- and federal-level correctional facilities.

Revisions to the CJ-43A include deleting three items related to prison staff and adding three items to address security staff shortages and incarcerated persons access to digital technology and the internet. No substantive changes were made to the CJ-43B.
