Abstract:
The standard requires employers to monitor employee exposure to beryllium and beryllium compounds, to establish and implement a written control plan, to conduct medical surveillance, to provide personal protective equipment, to train workers about the hazards faced working in and around beryllium, and to establish and maintain accurate records of worker exposure to beryllium and beryllium compounds. These records are used by employers, workers, physicians, and the Government to ensure that workers are not harmed by exposure to beryllium.

OSHA is requesting an adjustment decrease from 82,822 to 32,587 hours, a difference of 50,235 hours in the burden. This decrease is the result of removing the collection of information requirements for rule familiarization from this ICR and reducing the non-compliance rate of employers. The capital cost estimated for general industry decreased from $18,741,540 to $6,365,761. The capital cost estimate is annualized over three years. The reduction in cost is due to the change in the non-compliance rate of employers.
