Abstract:
We are requiring CMRS providers to provide a one-time certification that they have implemented location-based routing for wireless 911 voice calls and real-time text (RTT) communications to 911 nationwide and report specific data related to the implementation. With location-based routing as implemented under these rules, CMRS providers will use precise location information to route wireless 911 voice calls and RTT communications to 911 to the appropriate public safety answering point. For the millions of individuals seeking emergency assistance each year by wireless 911 voice call or RTT communication to 911, improving routing for these services will reduce emergency response times and save lives.
