Abstract:
The purpose of this standard and its information collection requirements is to provide protection for workers from the adverse effects associated with occupational exposure to coke oven emissions. Employers must monitor worker exposure, reduce worker exposure to permissible exposure limits, and provide medical examinations and other information to workers pertaining to coke oven emissions.

Short Statement:
The agency is requesting an adjustment decrease of 378 burden hours (from 34,787 hours to 34,409 hours). The adjustment decrease is due to a decrease in the number of affected workers and a decrease in the number receiving chest x-rays during periodic medical exams. There was a decrease in the number of workers employed in facilities producing “coke oven and blast furnace products” from 4,211 to 3,663 in which affected the number of workers employed in coke oven and blast furnace production capacities. Table 4, Estimated Change in Burden Hours, shows the changes in burden hours in detail by provision. In addition, the estimated capital cost burden decreased as a result of the reduction in workers receiving medical examinations. As discussed in more detail in the agency's response to Item 13, the cost decreased from $369,173 to $320,341, a cost difference of $48,832.
