Abstract:
FAA is proposing to establish requirements for automated data service providers supporting UAS operations in United States airspace. This collection concerns the data reporting, recordkeeping, and disclosure requirements placed on automated data service providers under part 146 that would be used to support BVLOS UAS operations. The normalization of BVLOS flight is FAA’s next step in rulemaking towards the integration of UAS into the NAS, which has been a key priority of FAA over the last two decades. The proposed collection is necessary to provide FAA with the appropriate data to certificate automated data service providers and authorize their services, receive/have access to data collected by automated data service providers that support the evolution of policies for operations that would leverage automated data service providers, and stay informed on changes to the software and other digital infrastructure supporting the underlying distributed computational systems of automated data service providers. Further, collection of this data and information enables FAA to review the effectiveness and safety impact of the regulatory framework so that FAA can make future changes, if necessary, to the regulations.
