Title: ●Atlantic Highly Migratory Species; 2011 Commercial Fishing Season and Adaptive Management for the Atlantic Shark Fishery
Abstract: This rule would adjust quotas and opening dates for the 2011 fishing season for large coastal sharks (LCS), small coastal sharks (SCS), and pelagic sharks managed the 2006 Consolidated Atlantic Highly Migratory Species (HMS) Fishery Management Plan (FMP) and its amendments. These measures are necessary to ensure that quotas are based upon the most recent landings information and to account for over- or under-harvests from the 2010 fishing season. In addition to setting annual quotas, adaptive management measures, such as delaying the fishing season, will be considered to ensure equitable fishing opportunities for commercial shark fishermen in all regions and areas.
