Title: ●Highly Migratory Species Definition Modifications for Billfishes
Abstract: This interpretive rule will recognize the change of the genus of white marlin from Tetrapturus to Kajikia in the implementing regulations of the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (MSA) to reflect recent taxonomic changes for white marlin. The action will also add the recently recognized species, roundscale spearfish (Tetrapturus georgii), to the definitions in the implementing regulations of the MSA. The species, roundscale spearfish, was previously thought to be the same as white marlin. This action is not significant under the meaning of E.O. 12866 since it is below the economic threshold of impact and has no novel policy issues associated with it.
