| Title: ●Modification of Swordfish Retention Limits for the West Coast Deep-Set Tuna Longline Fishery Under Authority of the Fishery Management Plan for U.S. West Coast Fisheries for Highly Migratory Species | |
| Abstract: This action would implement the Pacific Fishery Management Council's recommendation to modify HMS FMP regulations pertaining to possession and landing limits for swordfish captured in the deep-set tuna longline fishery, contingent on hook type and observer presence. If using J-hooks (tuna hooks), the trip limit would be ten swordfish. If using circle hooks, the trip limit would be 25 swordfish. If carrying an observer, there would be no limit. Regulations prohibiting shallow-set longline to target swordfish would remain in place. The current trip limit is 10 regardless of hook type or observer presence. | |
