| Title: Fishing Year 2014 Gulf of Maine Atlantic Cod and Haddock Recreational Management Measures | |
| Abstract: This action would implement revisions to the recreational minimum fish size, per angler possession limits and/or fishing seasons for fishing year 2014 that begins on May 1, 2014. The action is required by the recreational fishery accountability measure to implement adjustments to catch limits, fish sizes, or seasons when the recreational-specific catch limit (i.e., sub-annual catch limit) is exceeded. Recreational catch of cod has exceeded the fishing year 2013 catch limit by 45 percent; haddock catches have exceeded the catch limit by 146 percent. The New England Fishery Management Council will recommend management measure changes in late February that may include all or some of the measures mentioned above. Rulemaking will be conducted in conjunction with ongoing Framework Adjustment 51 to the Northeast Multispecies Fishery Management Plan to the extent practicable. | |
