Title: Modify Recreational Red Grouper Recreational Management Measures in the Fishery Management Plan for Reef Fish Resources of the Gulf of Mexico
Abstract: This action finalized modifications to the red grouper recreational management measures in the Gulf of Mexico, including a daily bag limit, accountability measures, and closed seasons. The purpose of this action was to maximize the recreational fishing opportunity by extending the number of days in the fishing season, and to achieve optimal yield in accordance with the fishery management plan. This action reduced the recreational bag limit from four fish to two fish per person per day, removed the automatic bag limit reduction when the recreational annual catch limit is exceeded, and maintained the existing February 1 through March 31 seasonal closure in waters deeper than 20-fathoms.
