| Title: Pacific Coast Tribal Whiting Fishery for 2015(Section 610 Review) | |
| Abstract: The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) prepared a rule to establish an interim 2015 tribal whiting allocation for the Tribal Whiting Fishery. NMFS developed this rule after discussions with the affected tribes and in consideration of the non-tribal fisheries interests. For 2015, we anticipated participation by the Makah tribe, one of the four coastal treaty tribes, and the only tribe that has participated in this fishery to date. As in previous years, this allocation was an interim allocation and was not intended to set precedent for future years. This interim status will remain until the long-term tribal treaty right to Pacific whiting is negotiated among the co-managers. We allocated the same percentage of U.S. total available catch as in prior years to the tribal sector. | |
