This rulemaking would implement Recommendation 15-06, which was adopted at the 2015 annual meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas. Recommendation 15-06 requires fishing vessels to "promptly release unharmed, to the extent practicable, porbeagle sharks caught in association with International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas fisheries when brought alive alongside for taking on board the vessel." This rulemaking would likely impact recreational and commercial fishing vessels that interact with porbeagle sharks when fishing for Atlantic swordfish, tunas, and billfishes.
