Title: ●Pacific Island Fisheries; Final Temporary Rule; Emergency Action; Longline Retention Prohibition for Striped Marlin in the Western and Central Pacific Ocean North of the Equator
Abstract:

NMFS, pursuant to Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act (Magnuson-Stevens Act) intends to issue a final temporary rule that would be effective on the date of publication in the Federal Register which would prohibit the retention of Western and Central North Pacific Ocean (WCNPO) striped marlin by vessels fishing under a Hawaii longline limited access permit. WCNPO striped marlin are those caught within the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) Convention Area west of 150W longitude and north of the Equator. This final temporary rule will terminate on January 1, 2026. NMFS is taking this action to immediately halt retention of this striped marlin stock pursuant to the NMFS rulemaking authorities under Magnuson-Stevens Act to minimize the overage of a 2025 limit.
