Title: Defense Priorities and Allocations System (DPAS)
Abstract: The Defense Priorities and Allocations System (DPAS) implements the priorities and allocations authority of title I of the Defense Production Act of 1950, as amended, and the priorities authority of section 18 of the Selective Service Act of 1948. The DPAS was published as a final rule on July 30, 1984. Based on the findings and recommendations of an interagency sponsored study concerning the controlled materials program, and comments from both defense agency and industry users, this proposed rule would amend the DPAS to remove the controlled materials provisions and make certain revisions to its procedural requirements. These amendments will have no costs associated with them, would reduce the regulatory and information reporting burden on industry and make the DPAS more effective and efficient, would result in cost savings for defense contractors, would update certain other provisions to conform to statutory and jurisdictional changes, and would make the DPAS more compatible with current industry practices.
