Title: Government-Furnished Equipment Marking (DFARS Case 2008-D050) 
Abstract: This rule amended the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) to address requirements for DoD contractors to tag, label, or mark Government-furnished property items that have been designated to be uniquely tracked, controlled, or managed in maintenance, repair and/or supply systems by means of their serial numbers (serialized item management). The rule provided a new DFARS clause at 252.245-7001, Tagging, Labeling, and Marking of Government-Furnished Property, to implement and facilitate the requirements. The rule also provided a list of eight exceptions to the policy, including when the items are intellectual property or software; or have been previously tagged, labeled, or marked. The rule applies only to DoD contractors provided with Government-furnished property that is subject to serializing item management. Any start-up costs that contractors will incur to comply with the rule are expected to be minimal.
