HHS/CDC RIN: 0920-AA28 Publication ID: Spring 2011
Title: Medical Examination of Aliens
Abstract: The Secretary of Health and Human Services has the authority to promulgate regulations that establish requirements for the medical examination of aliens. Under this authority, CDC/HHS is proposing to amend its regulations that govern medical examinations that aliens must undergo before they may be admitted to the United States. Specifically, HHS/CDC is proposing to update vaccination requirements, definitional changes for drug abuse and drug addiction, revise scope of medical examination, and update the list of "communicable disease of public health significance". HHS/CDC is proposing revisions to these regulations to reflect current medical knowledge and practices. These changes will reduce the health security threat to the United States from emerging diseases without imposing an undue burden on either the aliens or the health-care system in U.S. resettlement communities.
