| Title: Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Face to Face Encounters and Written Orders Prior to Delivery (CMS-6033-P) | |
| Abstract: This proposed rule would implement section 1834(a)(11)(B) of the Social Security Act, which was recently amended by the Affordable Care Act. We propose establishing a face-to-face encounter as a condition of payment for certain durable medical equipment (DME) items. When this face-to-face encounter is performed by a physician assistant, a nurse practitioner or a clinical nurse specialist, a physician must document that the face-to-face has occurred pursuant to the order being written. The complete list of covered items of DME that require a face-to-face encounter will be published annually in the Federal Register. | |
