Title: Exclusion of Certain Real Property From Resources Considered When Calculating Supplemental Security Income Benefits (3622P) 
Abstract: We propose to modify our regulations and revise our definition of the home to include real property that an SSI claimant or beneficiary intends to use as a principal place of residence following repairs or renovations necessary to make it habitable or equipped for an SSI claimant or beneficiary. We propose to exclude, under certain circumstances, such real property from the resources we consider when we determine SSI eligibility. We also propose to revise our rules on the payment of conditional benefits to reflect the changes we are making to our definition of the home. We expect that these proposed changes will prevent the loss of benefits for claimants and beneficiaries while they are making certain repairs or renovations to a future principal place of residence.
