Title: ●Authorization to Contact Third Parties as a Condition of Supplemental Security Income Eligibility
Abstract:

We propose to amend our regulations to require, as a condition of eligibility, that an applicant for or recipient of Supplemental Security Income (SSI) provide a blanket authorization to us to contact third parties to verify eligibility information.  This provision would also apply to legal guardians and deemors.  As with the current permission to contact financial institutions regulation, this provision establishes good cause exceptions when authorization cannot be obtained through no fault of the SSI applicant/recipient.

We also propose to add to the financial institutions authorization regulation a new good cause exception to provide a good cause exception to a minor child who does not have a parent or legal guardian, or whose parent or legal guardian cannot be contacted or located, or contact with a parent or legal guardian could endanger the well-being of the child.
