| Title: Importation of Exotic Wild Birds; Withdrawal of Proposal to Add Blue-Fronted Amazon Parrots From Argentina's Approved Sustainable Use Management Plan to the Approved List of Non-Captive-Bred Species | |
|
Abstract:
On August 6, 2003, we published a proposed rule (68 FR 46599; comment period reopened 70 FR 15798 and 70 FR 29711) that would have allowed the importation into the United States of blue-fronted Amazon parrots removed from the wild in Argentina under an approved sustainable use management plan. The Wild Bird Conservation Act limits or prohibits imports of exotic bird species to ensure that their populations are not harmed by trade. It also encourages wild bird conservation programs in countries of origin by ensuring that all trade in such species involving the United States is biologically sustainable and not detrimental to the species. However, Argentina currently does not meet the criteria to allow this proposed action. Therefore, the proposed action has been withdrawn. |
