Title: Alaska National Wildlife Refuges; Other Refuge Uses--Recreational Activities and Refuge-Specific Regulations, Alaska Maritime and Kenai National Wildlife Refuges
Abstract: This proposed rule would amend and update refuge-specific regulations for management of national wildlife refuges in the State of Alaska. We would add a new regional regulation allowing recreational collection of edible berries and plants and naturally shed antlers. For Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge, we would update the regulations to remove the requirement for the public to obtain a special-use permit issued jointly by the Service and the U.S. Navy to visit Amchita Island, because the island is no longer withdrawn for U.S. Navy management and use. We also will propose a number of revisions to the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge public-use regulations to put the existing regulations into plain English and to implement decisions made in the recently completed Kenai National Wildlife Refuge Comprehensive Conservation Plan.
