FWS published a final rule to list the Dakota skipper as endangered and the Poweshiek skipperling as threatened under the Act. The Dakota skipper is a small-to-mid-sized butterfly that inhabits high-quality tallgrass and mixed-grass prairies in Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota in the United States, and the provinces of Manitoba and Saskatchewan in Canada. The species is presumed to be extirpated from Iowa and Illinois and from many sites within occupied States. The Poweshiek skipperling is a small butterfly that inhabits high-quality tallgrass prairies in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin, and prairie fens in Michigan; it also occurs in the province of Manitoba, Canada. The species is presumed to be extirpated from Illinois and Indiana, as well as from many sites within occupied States. FWS is addressing critical habitat under RIN 1018-AZ58.
