We published a direct final rule on February 17, 2016, to revise the List of Endangered and Threatened Wildlife to reflect the scientifically accepted taxonomy and nomenclature of 8 wildlife species listed under section 4 of the Endangered Species Act. Our regulations require us to use the most recently accepted scientific name for any species that we have listed as endangered or threatened. The revised listings for 7 of the species became effective May 17, 2016. However, because we received significant adverse comments in regard to the Newell's Townsend's shearwater (Puffinus auricularis newelli), we withdrew the direct final rule to revise the listing of that species.
