Title: ●Subsistence Management Regulations for Public Lands in Alaska---Subpart B, Federal Subsistence Board, Membership
Abstract:

The Departments of the Interior and Agriculture will make a final determination on the proposal to revise the regulations concerning the composition of the Federal Subsistence Board (Board) to add public members to the Board who have knowledge of rural subsistence, including Alaska Native rural subsistence practices, to more clearly define requirements used for the selection of the Board Chair, and to clarify that the Secretaries of the Interior and Agriculture retain authority over Board actions and decisions. In 2022, the Departments held joint consultations with federally recognized Tribes of Alaska and various Tribal Consortia. Later that year, DOI leadership and the Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, held joint consultations with various Alaska Tribes regarding fisheries. Approximately 445 individual subsistence users and representatives from Alaska Native Tribes, Tribal consortia, Alaska Native organizations, and Native corporations participated in the consultations. This rulemaking action addresses concerns raised during these consultations.
