| Title: Jacob Wetterling Crimes Against Children and Sexually Violent Offender Guidelines | |
| Abstract: Section 170101 of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994 encourages States to establish registration systems for persons who are: (1) convicted of a criminal offense against a victim who is a minor; (2) convicted of a sexually violent offense; or (3) found to be a sexually violent predator. The establishment of such a system by a State is a condition for eligibility for full funding under section 506 of the Omnibus Crime and Safe Streets Act of 1968 (42 U.S.C. 3756). Section 170101(a)(1) directs the Attorney General to establish guidelines for the States to follow in developing conforming registration systems. These guidelines fulfill the Attorney General's responsibility under that section. | |
