DOJ/FBI RIN: 1110-AA28 Publication ID: Fall 2010
Title: Clarification Regarding the Production of FBI Criminal Identification Records
Abstract: The rule will amend the FBI's regulations concerning procedures an individual may use to obtain his or her criminal identification records and clarify that criminal identification records may be provided only to the subject making the request, the subject’s attorney, or the subject’s personal representative. In addition, this rule will provide authority to accept alternative proofs of identity necessary to accompany such requests and allow the FBI to authorize additional methods of submitting requests and additional methods of payment. Finally, this rule will clarify that the term “identification record” means a “criminal identification record” and not other identification records that may be maintained by the FBI.
