| Title: Chemical Mixtures Containing Gamma-Butyrolactone | |
| Abstract: In previous rulemakings, DEA made gamma-butyrolactone (GBL) a List I chemical and established thresholds for transactions involving this chemical. DEA has requested information from interested persons in order to establish regulations governing chemical mixtures containing gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), a List I chemical. Currently, all chemical mixtures containing GBL are exempt from regulation. These mixtures will remain exempt until publication of rulemakings regarding chemical mixtures (see RIN 1117-AA31). GBL is used in the illicit manufacture of GHB, a Schedule I controlled substance. Specifically, DEA is seeking information on the types of products containing GBL; the concentration levels of GBL in the product formulations; and the packaging, distribution, use, and commercial availability of these products. This information will help to determine whether there are chemical mixtures containing GBL which should be exempt from the regulations governing listed chemicals. | |
